Pottingsheds over the years have housed a multitude of sins, quite literally. Perhaps though it is my poor memory that seems to think that one such venue featured well in Lady Chatterley's and the gamekeeper's torrid affair, in the once banned D. H. Lawrence book. Still I guess that there will have been plenty of such goings on in the past.
These days a potting or garden shed may not be invaluable but one can be really useful. If like me you have a garage, and no car, it may be that you can use this space for all of your gardening ancillary works. However, especially if garden space is at a premium, a small potting shed can be really handy.
My husband actually has a book about Australian's and their sheds and you would be amazed at how each of their small such outhouses has been customized. Many people have personalized them so much that they are little home from home. Australian men, and more recently women, use these little places as their inner sanctum and very private own free space. Some have televisions in them along with chairs and minor cooking facilities. With all of the no smoking regulations in England these days many folk use their potting or garden shed as their own little private smoking area now. People have even been known to make their Home Brew alcohol in their potting shed, and more I guess.
However just as a support to your garden work a potting shed is a valuable tool. It is a place where you can safely store all of your plant pots, garden tools, compost, seeds, twine and much more. It is a place where you can actually set about maintaining such equipment by means of cleaning and oiling. Tools can then be stored safely in a weather free environment for times such as the Winter months.
When you are starting to plant your garden seeds into trays the potting shed is an ideal place. It is easy to keep clean and is a perfect place for messy jobs such as planting. After all you do not want to have to do this outside no matter what the weather. Also, alternatively, you do not want to have to use somewhere such as your kitchen, making a dirty mess all over the place.
The beauty of a potting shed is that you can design it to fit your needs. Some people dabble with crafts and or painting and a potting shed will accommodate such hobbies well. It can be a great place to just have some quiet solitary time when the need arises. A potting shed used to be the domain of the man of the house but today it can be anyone's.
Think about what your hobbies and activities entail and consider whether or not a potting shed would solve problems regarding space for you. If you are a gardener, either avid or just now and then, a potting shed can be a great asset and can be a very personal space also.
